Let us entertain you!

A treasure trove of local talent

The Great Lakes cruise industry is growing rapidly, offering tourists unique access to North America’s freshwater treasures.
With beautiful ports along Ontario's shores, the opportunity to include local performers aboard—whether for one set or one day—presents an untapped avenue for cultural exchange and economic benefit.

CONNECTING CRUISE GUESTS TO THE VIBRANT CULTURE OF THE GREAT LAKES

We’re thrilled to introduce this entertainment initiative designed to connect cruise operators with exceptional local talent in ports throughout the Great Lakes. This program not only enhances the guest experience with unforgettable, place-based performances, but also strengthens regional creative ecosystems by providing paid opportunities to musicians, storytellers and artists rooted in these waterfront communities.

Through curated performer rosters, up-to-date entertainment listings and hands-on support, we make it easy for cruise lines to integrate authentic local entertainment into their itineraries. By bringing music to the cruise line, guests are invited to explore the rich cultural tapestry that defines each port—from lakeside folk to contemporary jazz, community choirs to indie rock and more.

This program reflects a growing movement toward regenerative tourism—where investment in the arts means deeper community engagement, stronger local economies and a more sustainable future for the Great Lakes region.

A QUICK GUIDE TO HIRING LOCAL TALENT

Bringing local artists onboard—or inviting them to perform dockside—is a seamless process that adds incredible value to your programming. Here’s how to get started:

  • Review the artist roster and/or entertainment listings
We maintain an evolving roster of professional, performance-ready artists who are available at each port. Genres range from traditional and classical to modern and experimental. Artists are vetted, local and open to meaningful collaboration.
  • Make contact through a local liaison (optional)
Our partners at NOTE Consulting or your local port contact can introduce you to artists or music advocates, streamlining communication and ensuring cultural fit.
  • Negotiate terms directly
Cruise operators and artists arrange fees and set times and logistics directly. We encourage transparent, fair compensation that aligns with local standards.
  • Enjoy the show
Whether it’s a concert on the dock, a jazz trio in the lounge or an immersive storytelling session onboard, your guests will leave with a deeper connection to the places they visit.

ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY BEST PRACTICES

To ensure a rewarding, respectful, and successful experience for both performers and cruise lines, we recommend the following best practices:

  • Fair pay is foundational
Rates may vary by genre, travel needs, hospitality and equipment.
  • Prioritize local knowledge
Engage local music champions and organizations for guidance—these individuals offer essential insight into regional scenes, customs and available talent.
  • Respect cultural contexts
Artists are not just entertainers—they’re culture bearers. Support authentic storytelling, diverse programming and community-rooted content.
  • Use clear, simple agreements
NOTE can provide templates to help establish expectations around timing, hospitality, technical requirements, payment and cancellation policies.
  • Consider sustainability
Where possible, support artists traveling by low-carbon methods and coordinate with port partners to reduce waste, noise and overbooking.
  • Provide merchandise opportunities
Letting artists sell their music and merch or share their social handles helps build longer-term fan engagement and local economic impact.
